Questions

1. I have just installed AvP, yet my PC says it is not installed.
2. My AvP crashes before/after opening intro scenes. I can get it working by by-passing cut scenes but the graphics are all screwy in game.
3. I have Game Spy Arcade yet I can't play AvP online
4. When I try to join a multiplayer game, I get the busy icon and then nothing happens.
5. When I try to join a multiplayer game I get the "Incorrect File Version" error message
6. When I try to join a multiplayer game I get the message "You do not have this map"
7. When playing, my character suddenly starts jumping everywhere for no reason.
8. My game is really slow and sluggish. I know its not my pute and all my drivers are up to date. This happens in Single Play as well as Multiplay.
9. I have Original AvP yet I cannot get any game mode to launch except Skirmish

Firstly, you need to check that you installed it to the default location (c:\program files\fox\aliens versus predator). If correct you then need to check your registry settings. To do this click on START>RUN then type in regedit. This will bring up your settings dialogue box. You need to expand each branch to the following address:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Applications\Aliens versus Predator

Make sure the following information is in the final address.

To adjust the "Data" field double-click on the "Name" item

Are your Binkw32 and Smackw32 files up to date. If a new install then probably not. Visit our Downloads page for the latest versions

I have Game Spy Arcade yet I can't play AvP online

This is a similar problem to the one faced earlier. GSA is not finding your AvP. To correct this there are 2 ways:

1: Assuming you are logged into GSA. Bring down menu (Click Gamespy on menu bar) click Scan for Games. If GSA does not find your AvP then you will have to ADD it manually

2: Bring down menu. Click on OPTIONS, and expand the My Games branch. If AvP is listed click on it. There will be a dialogue box on right hand side of menu (Program Location). This box should point to your avp.exe in the AvP directory.

When I try to join a multiplayer game, I get the busy icon and then nothing happens.

This is a common happening. It is not a problem. What has happened is you have tried to join a game just as it has finished so GSA is still trying to find the host. Just bring up the GSA window (should be minimized) and click anywhere on screen.

Either you or the host is using AvP and the other is using AvP:GE. You cannot play one against the other

When playing, my character suddenly starts jumping everywhere for no reason.

This is caused by a controller conflict. Go into Controller Configuration and remove all keypad controls.

My game is really slow and sluggish. I know its not my pute and all my drivers are up to date. This happens in Single Play as well as Multiplay.

There are 2 ways to solve this.

1: Go to the OPTIONS screen and set everything down to minimum (or OFF in some cases) and restart game.

2: When playing, make sure you have AvP CD2 in drive (or any music cd) as this alters the read rate of your PC.

This is caused by a batch file in AvP. It is set to look for tracks for particular maps so if no cd is in (or a data cd is in) it will still look for the particular track # as per batch file. Thus slowing down the game.

I have normal AvP and can load skirmish play only. I cannot play single player or multiplayer

Go to the files and in the fastfiles. Go to ffinfo.txt. Look for graphics/fmvs. Take the fmv files out just fmv and install fastfile. When you're done it should look like this. graphics\fastfile:text26.ffl this get the game working without fmvs

When I try to join a multiplayer game I get the message "Unable to locate file Predbit6.rif"

The reason you can't find this file is because you are trying to play AvP:GE with a hacked or badly copied version of the game.
This file is no longer in circulation and the vast majority of players are glad it has finally vanished
